We loved the old BookBook for iPad and judging by the fact that it sold through 2 iPad generations everyone else loved it too! I used one on my first generation iPad for almost the whole time I owned it and it even ended up on Oprah's favourite things! However with the release of the new iPad Twelve South have decided it was time for an update. We have recently received v2 of the iPad BookBook and our impressions of it so far are very positive. Read on to see what has changed.
The very first thing we noticed about the BookBook is that it is both thinner and lighter, visually it is similar (it still looks like a well aged vintage book)
Design The very first thing we noticed about the BookBook is that it is both thinner and lighter. Twelve South has improved the way the iPad is secured, it now features a leather 'skin' that protects the entire iPad (while allowing access to ports, switches and the camera), this improves the protection of the iPad (in effect you are getting a case within a case). Outside the BookBook retains the same handmade vintage leather cover and 3 colour combinations are available (Vibrant Red, Vintage Brown and Classic Black). Out of the 3 the Vibrant Red is the most distintive with slightly different typography on the spine and some red/gold detailing on the corners (I have included some photos at the end of this post). BookBook features 2 stand modes, one for typing (write a book on your BookBook, how meta) and the other for watching videos. Branding is very subdued, with an embossed logo on the outside and a tag on the inside.
Simply put this is another Twelve South classic
Final Thoughts BookBook is one of the most distinctive cases you can buy for the iPad, not only does it look great but it has pratical value and excellent all-round protection. Like all the other BookBooks the detailing is excellent, just look at the embossed corners and the spine and unlike a lot of cases it looks better with age and a bit of wear and tear. Simply put this is another Twelve South classic.
The Twelve South BookBook v2 for iPad is available in Vibrant Red, Vintage Brown and Classic Black, has an RRP of $99.95 and is available from all good Apple resellers.
