Over the years we haven't ranged that many speakers here at Try and Byte, however when we do we tend to range ones that have something a bit different about them (I still remember these). To me the Carbon Audio Zooka continues this tradition.
Internally the Zooka is a Bluetooth wireless speaker with, a built-in battery, good for about 8 hours charged via micro USB, 3.5" audio-in socket for devices without Bluetooth and a microphone for use with apps like FaceTime or Skype.
Nothing too wild so far, on the outside however:
- The Zooka is constructed from silicone, which gives it a nice soft feel, great durability and makes colours really pop.
- Also unique is that the Zooka can slide onto the edge of a MacBook Pro and iPad (or any number of tablets). It even has a cut-out so it does block the home button on an iPad or the FaceTime camera on the MacBook Pro (sadly the speaker is a bit too heavy for the Air).
- There is a built-in stand that can securely hold iPads and other tablets.
As for the sound, it is better (and louder) than what you'll get from internal speakers, it works well with the iPad as it has separate speakers on each end. It isn't a full blown audio system but it works well in a variety of situations including watching movies on the iPad, listening to music / podcasts on the go or as a speakerphone for a small group.
